I truly think that there is a difference between eating to live and living to eat.
I am a 23-year-old San Jose, CA native and a graduate from the University of California, Berkeley.
Food and I…
When I was little, visits with my Dad were few and far between. Our quality time always seemed to revolve around food — he would pick me up and we would go to a restaurant where I had to lay a napkin down on my lap. This was a huge thing for me at 7 or 8, when I still ordered off the kid menu and really only cared for dessert.
…
It’s funny how in life we are on a constant trajectory. We don’t stand back and realize that life has indeed gone by while we were “busy making other plans.” I always wanted to do something that made me happy. And one thing that has always brought me pure happiness is food. And not in the gluttonous, stuff your face, just…sustenance, kind-of-way, (although, that’s not bad all the time :)) but the way food brings people together. Whether the tiny confines of a kitchen table or a cafe terrace in the Mediterranean, food is life. We use it to rejoice, we use it to mourn. An index of one’s palate can reveal so much about a person – whether you crave Foie Gras for dinner or McDonald’s. That is what intrigues me the most. The science of taste.
And so, I have little to offer from the professional standpoint. I was never a chef, I’ve never had any culinary training. But what I offer to you, is my sense of taste. My taste is constantly being nourished – by food, by books, by people like you. Everyone is different, but I’m sure in some way, our tastes will collide. And I think you agree, when someone likes the same food you do, it’s a good feeling. If you have the time, I’d love to hear from you. ~
Off to find something to eat,
